About Chris Cornwell

As a geologist, I have always had a deep interest in the landscape and the natural world. Now retired and living amidst the splendour of North Wales, I have the opportunity to paint its majestic mountains, serene woodlands, and dramatic coastline. Each work presents an ongoing challenge to capture the region’s unique beauty, shifting light, and evocative atmosphere.

Watercolour is my preferred medium. I love its fluid quality and transparency. The delicate balance required to control a wash on damp paper—walking the fine line between triumph and disaster—brings a sense of exhilaration. More recently, I have explored painting with acrylics and oils, enjoying the challenges and possibilities each medium presents.

I enjoy the company of fellow artists and am an active member of the Denbighshire Art Society and the Betws Outdoor Painters.

I exhibit extensively across North Wales, including at The Bay Tree Gallery on Anglesey, the Llangollen Tourist Centre, The Bay Gallery in Colwyn Bay, The Royal Oak Hotel in Betws-y-Coed, Conwy Art and Crafts, and Caffi Siabod near Capel Curig.
Most notably, I have exhibited at Oriel Môn on Anglesey and at the Royal Cambrian Academy Open Exhibition.
